Villanelle

Goals do not fade gently into the light
Un-success should make you try your best
Live your dreams and you succeed in life

Owning business can make you riches and get you babes
Doing your best will make you the best forever
Goals do not fade gently into the light

Good business fading into the light without goals
Being the best forever will never make you falter
Live your dreams and you will succeed in life

Wild men who think they can make a quick ten
Learn the ten will make them end their wild ways
Goals do not fade gently into the light

Getting riches will make your pockets brim
At the stitches and make your goals come true
Live your dreams and you will succeed in life

Old dreams will make can make you accomplish your goals
Once you get your ten you can relax again
Goals do not fade gently into the light

Sonnet

Shall I compare hunting to a sport of skill?
Having a gun can be so much fun when used correctly
In the field you can yield a good harvest
Stealth, you need in order to get wealth in this
Call in the game and get yourself a name
Practice on some targets or get covered with shame
Clean your gun or your be shunned and disgraced
Antlers can make the deer canter in use
This sport is not for a poor man forever
The blood isn’t for the faint of the heart
Bullets with mullets don’t mix well at all
Deer aren’t Steer but get spooked just as easily
Pheasants act like pheasants and scatter easily
Hunting is the greatest sport in the world

Outside Reading Book 4th Quater

My outside reading book for this quarter is Crocodile Tears by Anthony Horowitz. This is the latest book in the Alex Rider Novel series. I’d like to know where the author gets all his ideas for these books and how he makes them so descriptive. I would also like to know where he got the idea for these books, and does it take him very long to write them. The final thing I would like to know is how many more books the author will write for this series.
I was reminded in this book how some people seem to be saints but are deranged physcopaths that would kill millions for money. I was reminded in this book of conflicts all around the world especially Africa. The setting mostly takes place in Africa and describes a modern day warzone, much similar to conflicts in South Africa, Sierra Leon, and Somalia.  This book reminded me of many other things.
If I were Alex in the book I would try to cooperate with MI6 as much as possible. I would do this because you should serve your country proudly and without question. I would try to stay out of trouble as it seems to find him easier than it does others. Lastly I would try to take as much physical therapy as possible, because of how much he gets beat up and injured he’ll need it.
I’m not sure why the British Government uses a 15 year old boy so frequently as a spy, but it seems it is very successful. I’m not sure why there are so many crazy people in the books, but quite frankly it keeps them interesting enough, as you would think the stuff that happens could occur in real life. I’m also not sure why they haven’t awarded the boy any medals, as he has saved the world at least twice.
The author’s purpose of this book is to entertain you with a story that is written with so much reality you could believe it actually happened. His purpose is to also shed light on the secret crime organizations on the world. He wants to show you how powerful they can become, and spread corruption throughout all levels of government. Lastly he wants to paranoia you just a little bit so the book will keep you on the edge of your seat and want to read it to the end.

Concrete Poem

Riddle Poem

I see other docks around me, some lavish and huge others small but enjoyable. I see the water lapping at the shore, the ducks quacking commands at their ducklings. I see beautiful magnificent Yachts and Boats around me.
I hear the birds chip their warnings. The deer crunching the leaves in the woods. I hear people playing in the water laughing and enjoying themselves. Boats are slapping their hulls against the water.
I scream like a banshee through the coves and the other boats around me. I can softly idle or sit and be quiet until the next time I turn on.  (I am a Sea-Doo)

Acrostic Poem

Hunting
Understandably good at Trap Shooting
Never misses a shot
Tries hard
Enjoys stomping around in the bush looking for animals to hunt
Really enjoys life

Persuasive Essay

Dear Mom and Dad, I would like you to let me go over to Granny’s house and put the radiator in the Intrepid. It could be very a very good experience because it will teach me some more about cars and how to fix them.
I know you’re going to say it’s too cold or messy, but it would be a plus for Granny because she gets lonely and would enjoy the company. You should let me and Andy go over fix the car and entertain granny for the afternoon.
If you let me fix the Intrepid you could stay home more at night or go to Tanners even more often!. On Fridays when we have marching band you could stay over at Mark and Debbie’s house and not have to leave early to pick me up. You may also not be as stressed out. You always say that I never go do anything with my friends and if the Intrepid was fixed I could not make you mad and stay out of your hair. I wouldn’t be so “sheltered” anymore as you like to say I am. I also could be more independent. You say that I do too much with you and I need to venture out on my own, well this is my chance. With the Intrepid I could experience things for myself without you.
Another reason why we should fix the Intrepid is it would improve my mechanical skills more. Dad, you always say: “watching me do this you’ll learn how to do it and you’ll be able to do this without me later”. Well as of now I have no idea how to change a radiator so this is a perfect chance. My final reason is with the Intrepid it will teach me how to take care of things more. I saw clearly that Uncle Mike didn’t take care of that car hardly any. If you let me fix it up I will clean it up and probably eventually make a little profit off it and it won’t turn into its crappy state again.
Fixing the Intrepid is beneficial for the entire family. Once it is fixed it will be a good learning experience for me, Andy, and Julee and it will teach us responsibility and may make as get along more.
Your son,

Hunter

Caesar Persuasive Essay

Hunter Harlow
Mr. Allam
English II
11 March 2011
A Letter from Your Late Caesar
How would you like to be stabbed and killed by the people you were close too, even calling them friends. Well fellow, Romans that was what exactly happened to me. I being murdered by my fellow politicians all came about when they became jealous of my popularity. I merely gave my people what they wanted and they still try to call me friends of theirs, no sir they are not friends at all!
Brutus and the other conspirators will argue and say that they killed me for my own good, and my ego was too big. My last words were “Et Tu Brute?”(III.i.75-80) because I thought he was the most loyal friend I had. I realize now that a true friend is Antony, Brutus and the conspirators cannot be trusted.
When I was stabbed by Brutus I was very shocked. This should prove to you that Brutus will never be a true friend to you and always betray you in the end, and he is power hungry. How can you trust a person with these qualities? You should speculate, can he turn his back on you in your time of need he should not be a leader of Rome ever. This should be concrete that Brutus will never be a true friend.
Antony is a true friend, and will be to you too. I guarantee he will not betray you like the conspirators did to me. He gave you a most noble speech, and he tried to improve his friendship with you. He will look out for you, and not run away when trouble comes. Antony should be your new Caesar because Brutus and the others lack compassion. Compassion is a key to a ruler. The conspirators will rule with an iron fist and be a heartless machine. Antony is the only friend you have left.
As I write my final words to you, I urge you to seek out Antony. Join him and he will become your friend. Join his cause and bring down the conspirators, and choose who you want to be ruled by. Bring down the tyrants!

POW #4

Dear, Brutus
Last night I had a fight with Calphurnia. She was trying to convince me to stay at the palace, and skip the crowning. I sided with her, but quickly changed my mind realizing that I am king of Rome and must show no fear. I am just so frustrated with her recently because she thinks she can control me, for crying out loud I am the Emperor of Rome! I think I have nothing to fear, so I think I should go to the crowning and show her that nothing will happen. Do you have any advice on the subject? Write me back if you do.

Best regards, Julius

Julius, I too had a fight except it was with Portia. She got mad at me for staying up late worried about my health. We had a row and I ended up telling her I’ll do whatever I want. She is treating me like a little kid; I am a grown man I should be able to stay up as late as I want. Anyway I think you should go to the crowning there will be security there is nothing to worry about. Can I ask you how to handle the situation with Portia I don’t want to make things worse. Write me back if you have any ideas

Sincerely, Brutus

POW #3

Dear Dr. Berry
I know your choice on whether we should stay 2 extra days is coming nearer. However having us stay 2 extra days could impact the district for years to come. Adding on these snow days could spell disaster to students and teachers alike. Would you like to spend your summer in school? I didn’t think so.
You must think it’s your duty as an American to hold us 2 extra days, because American education is behind the rest of the world. As you already know we stay longer in school than most districts in the U.S. Others would even say to hold us even longer, in hopes of outperforming the schools around the world that go to school year round. You may see this as concrete proof to have us stay, but this could be our downfall.
As I said earlier before you might think it’s your duty to hold us 2 extra days, but quite frankly many students would not even be in school during those days because of vacations they were taking. Because of all these vacations these kids were taking it would highly inconvenience teachers because they would have to give finals early, making them stay after school longer or coming in earlier.  Another reason would also be that some kids may start camp right after the day school is suppose to be let out, or have jobs whose hours switch because they aren’t suppose to be in school anymore. This may lead to kids taking the days off to go to work or camp or just flat out not showing up.
Teachers say in this decision is very big. Quite frankly they having to stay 2 extra days could leave them unmotivated to teach, and they could have vacation plans as well. Some teachers are counting on getting out on time and if they had to stay 2 extra days it could leave them in a bad mood and make students days at school bad as well. Teachers planned vacations could leave the schools short staffed, and also confuse kids when subs come in and try to teach them, making the 2 extra days just hectic and not very productive.
I have made my case and you should see the big negatives staying 2 extra days because of snow. Making your decision soon could calm down things a little but overall there is just too much that could make things bad. You should just opt out of staying 2 extra days of school.

Outside Reading #1

My outside reading novel for this quarter is “The Fall of Berlin 1945”. I chose this because I grew tired of the basic fact books on World War II. This book covers the fall of Berlin in a college level detail, which I have been looking for, for quite some time. As of now I would rate this book for me personally 4 out of five stars because I enjoy books on the history of war. For anybody else to read this book I would give it 2 out of 5 for how incredibly slow it moves. My rating system is a star system because it is the simplest for people to understand, and they don’t have to think hard about it.
A question I would have for the author was how he got so many personal quotes from general to general and quotes from civilians. It confuses me how he got so many facts because after the soviets took Berlin the soviets literally almost destroyed every single piece of information that the Nazi’s had recorded.
The quote that really sticks out to me is: By December 1944, many of the 3 million citizens of Berlin had stopped giving the Nazi salute, and jokes circulated that the most practical Christmas gift was a coffin. pg 1.  It stuck out to me so much because it clearly showed how much chaos Berlin had fallen into during the last months of the war.

POW #2

The Snapshot I will always remember the most in my life is my Grandpa. However this post isn’t about that he died or he has cancer, in fact I can still somewhat hold a conversation with him. The thing is he suffered a horrible brain injury when I was about 8 that literally knocked him silly, it is similar to dementia but he’s not crazy he’s just confused. He slipped on ice cracked his head open and knocked himself out. My grandma found about an hour later suffering from hypothermia and near death. I was so little at the time I didn’t realize the extent of his injuries until in recent years. It hurts our entire family that he will never be the same he was ever again. The thing that bothers me the most however is the memories that I had with him when he was normal are slowly fading away. I cannot fathom how my dad coped with this but he seems to be the strongest out of our entire family. I have had to get to know a whole other person but it has also brought its benefits. He stays at a home now and it is a learning opportunity for me to see other people who have Alzheimer’s and other medical problems. Even though I “lost” my grandpa years ago I still love him to death and I now can understand the other families with loved ones with brain injuries.

AOW #1

Dear Johnson County Community College,
I am Doyle Byrnes attorney, writing to you to get Ms. Byrnes reinstated at this college. Your suspension of my client was unjustly and out of line with the code of conduct handbook. There are no rules permitting against social networking or the posting of pictures that would make her suspension legal on your part. My client’s supervisor did not object to a photograph taken of the placenta and was told she was not in trouble when told to take the photograph down, in which Ms. Byrnes would have never taken the photograph if she instructed not to do so.  Furthermore her future career as a Registered Nurse and future salary are at stake because of this suspension. This kind of black mark on her record would almost completely ensure no Hospital will hire her if she was kicked out of a program. Hopefully you will understand my client’s reasoning and reinstate her immediately.

My name has no orgins that are historically significant other than a sportsman is called a hunter. My parents named me Hunter 15 years ago because they said they liked the name "Hunter". They said it was a tie between Hunter and Harry because i was really hairy when i was little. An advantage of my name i think is when i go hunting i can be annoymus because my liscense will say "Hunter Harlow", as in it only shows my last name. Really the only teasing i have ever got is when i introduce myself and i say i like to hunt, people think that is absouletly hillarious i don't know why but they just do. Sometimes my name is shortned to "Hunt" because its easy to say and i know a lot about Hunting and i like to hunt. I am also rarely called "Tar" because if people don't pronounce the t in my name it drives me crazy so they call me that to make sure i hear the "T"
